To be issued a Food Safety Supervisors certificate under the NSW Food Authority (mandatory from 1 April 2011) you will need to complete the 2 units of competency in our FSS Course:

  • SITXOHS002A Follow workplace hygiene procedures
  • SITXFSA001A Implement food safety procedures

You have 2 options with regard to completing these 2 units of competency:

  1. Online, available now - book here (see below the pre-requisites or considerations before choosing the online option). For an introductory period ATS is offering the online FSS Course at $179.00 & if you experience difficulty with this format you can transfer to a face to face class at a fee of $85 or
  2. Face to face in a classroom over 8 hours on a dedicated day & venue, see the ATS Course Schedule. These classes will begin in January 2011 & will comprise of an FSS Course in Sydney, FSS Course in Miranda and FSS Course in Campbeltown.

Either of the above options can be booked online, in person or over the phone.

Cost or FSS Course: $250. This includes the $30 NSW Food Authority certificate you will be required to produce when your business is inspected or audited by your local Food Authority (Council e.g.).

Duration of Food Safety Course: 8 hours + breaks in the face to face format & a total of up to 8 hours for the online format.

The course will cover the topics:

  1. Food Safety LegislationNSW Food Safety Supervisor Course
  2. Causes of Food Poisoning
  3. Identifying Hazards
  4. Implementing a Food Safety Program
  5. Good Hygiene Practices
  6. Implementing Critical Control Points when Handling Food

On the successful completion of the assessments in the Food Safety Supervisor Training Program you will receive a Statement of Attainment, SITXOHS002A Follow workplace hygiene procedures and SITXFSA001A Implement food safety procedures from The Hospitality Training Package SIT20207.

In order to successfully complete the unit SITXOHS002A you will be able to:

  • Implement procedures for food safety
  • Store food safely
  • Prepare food safely
  • Provide safe single use items
  • Maintain a clean environment
  • Dispose of food safely

In order to successfully complete the unit SITXFSA001A you will be able to:

  • Follow hygiene procedures & identify hygiene hazards
  • Report any personal health issues
  • Prevent food and other item contamination
  • Prevent cross contamination by washing hands

Course Assessment

  1. Complete a food safety quiz
  2. Complete a food safety monitoring program
  3. Complete a workplace food safety inspection
Important information to consider when enrolling in the online FSS Course:
  • Read the ATS Student Information & Code of Practice, available on the drop down menu "Training" & read the information in this link to ensure you need to complete this certificate
  • The ATS online FSS Course will work on all modern browsers
  • You will need to have access to a commercial kitchen to complete the final assessment. The implication here is, if you are currently unemployed it will be more suitable for you to enrol in a face to face course.
  • Once you have made your booking, you are enrolled in the course and you will not be entitled to a refund but you can transfer to a face to face course at an additional fee of $85.
  • Your online enrollment will remain active for 2 calendar months.
  • You can work at your own pace and save your progress as you go.
  • You can have 5 attempts at the online exam.
  • You will be issued your Statement of Attainment and FSS certificate when you have returned the paperwork & completed assessment task to ATS and are deemed "Competent" by the assessor.
